Environmental Justice
Climate Change Student Conference
March 26 - 28 2004
Conference Goals and Objectives
The objective of the speaker series leading up to the conference is to introduce the SNRE and UM community to various angles of the complex interaction between environmental justice and global climate change, representing the perspectives of the scientific, policy-making, economic, social-science and community group perspectives. Each speaker will also lead a discussion or workshop to involve SNRE community members in actively working towards a more just climate.
The conference will be held from March 26-28, 2004. At the conference, we will try to unify the five perspectives presented in the speaker series and discuss more in-depth solutions to the challenges presented. The first day will be devoted to commonly defining the problem and integrating the various perspectives. The second day will be devoted to case studies and panels from regions around the world where some integrative work on climate justice initiatives has begun. The last day will identify challenges and opportunities that cut across the various regions and look towards areas for cooperation among stakeholders in the future. Throughout the conference, working groups will meet to begin to define indicators of climate justice and define collaborative research agendas and action plans both regionally and globally.
